While Lawler?s collapse did not actually appear on live television, the incident occurred during the matchup between Daniel Bryan and Kane vs. The Prime Time Players. At the time, many audience members could be seen staring at the commentator area, which was off-camera during the match. Shortly thereafter, fellow broadcaster Michael Cole gave viewers an update, saying that Lawler had collapsed and was being treated by ringside doctors.

An emotional Cole continued to speak on Lawler?s condition throughout the evening, telling the audience that he was breathing on his own and reacting to stimuli, but was in isolated ER and awaiting further tests.

Lawler had competed in a match earlier in the evening and appeared to be fine during an on-camera appearance just moments before collapsing.

The WWE family has sent out an explosion of supportive messages for the King, with WWE Hall of Famer and Lawler?s former broadcast partner Jim Ross tweeting:? "I'm shaken by the news of my friend Jerry Lawler's medical emergency in Montreal. Hands shaking. Prayers for the King. I feel helpless."

Earlier this summer, Lawler suffered a strong kick to the back of the head during a matchup. ?Thanks to all my friends for your concern tonight? I?m OK,? he wrote on Aug. 21. Two weeks later, on Sept. 3, Lawler wrote, ?Finally feeling better. Thanks to everyone who asked about me. Punk crossed a line last week after the match was over.??

(AP) ? San Francisco Giants pitcher Ryan Vogelsong had a ready response when asked if he saw a way out of his recent struggles.

"Yeah," Vogelsong said. "Stop being bad. I'm costing us games right now and I'm not real happy about it."

Colorado pitcher Alex White homered off Vogelsong, and the Rockies went on to beat him for the first time in a 6-5 victory Monday night that snapped their five-game losing streak.

Buster Posey and Hunter Pence went deep for the Giants, who lost for only the second time in 10 road games. San Francisco's lead in the NL West was trimmed to five games over the idle Los Angeles Dodgers.

Vogelsong (12-8) allowed four runs and six hits over five innings in losing for the first time in seven career starts against the Rockies. He is 2-3 with a 9.57 ERA in six starts overall since Aug. 13, allowing 28 runs and 43 hits in 26 1-3 innings.

"I'm just not making pitches, missing locations," Vogelsong said. "I felt like I actually got a little bit better as the game went on, so that's a good sign. I felt pretty good about the last couple of innings I threw and I can build off that. But a couple of bad starts in a six-game span is not going to get me down. I'm a battler, guys."

San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said he's sure Vogelsong's pitching fortunes will turn around soon.

"He's one of our guys and he's going to be out there," Bochy said. "We have all the confidence in the world in him. He's done an unbelievable job for us this year. Vogie is going to be just fine."

The right-hander entered 5-0 with a 1.80 ERA in six previous starts against the Rockies, and the Giants had won all six games. But he was in trouble from the outset this time, allowing successive doubles to Tyler Colvin and Josh Rutledge, the first two batters he faced. One out later, Jordan Pacheco hit an RBI single to put the Rockies up 2-0.

The Giants trailed 6-2 before they got a two-run homer from Posey in the seventh inning off reliever Rex Brothers and then pulled within one in the eighth. Brandon Crawford drew a one-out walk from Matt Belisle, pinch-hitter Aubrey Huff singled and Angel Pagan followed with an RBI double, his third hit of the game.

Belisle got out of the jam by retiring Marco Scutaro and Pablo Sandoval.

Guillermo Moscoso (2-1) picked up the victory by working two innings, allowing one run on three hits. Rafael Betancourt pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 28th save in 33 chances.

"Sure, this was a tough game to lose, especially the way we battled back, but we've just got to put this one behind us," Bochy said. "You like having a five-game lead because it does give you a margin of error. But you don't want to slide in the back door. We need to win ballgames."

Colorado manager Jim Tracy was ejected in the bottom of the seventh by second base umpire Angel Campos after a heated argument over an inning-ending double play. Campos ruled that Scutaro tagged Rutledge before throwing to first to get Carlos Gonzalez. Tracy, ejected for the third time this season, argued that Scutaro missed the tag.

The Rockies also lost catcher Ramon Hernandez to a left hamstring strain sustained while running out a double in the fourth. He was replaced by pinch-runner Wilin Rosario, who advanced when Chris Nelson reached on first baseman Brandon Belt's fielding error and came home on Charlie Blackmon's double-play grounder.

White hit his first career homer in the second, offsetting a drive he allowed in the top of the inning to Pence for the Giants' first run.

"Got a good pitch," White said. "He left it up in the zone. Put a good swing on it. It's not going to happen often, but I enjoyed it."

A two-out error by Sandoval on Rosario's grounder to third opened the door to a pair of runs by the Rockies in the sixth. Nelson followed with a run-scoring triple and Blackmon added an RBI single to build a four-run lead.

White was lifted after allowing one run and six hits in four innings after throwing 76 pitches, roughly the limit for starting pitchers in the Rockies' unorthodox four-man rotation.

"I had pretty good command," White said. "Obviously, I fell behind a few times. Pitched pretty well with my four-seam. Used my two-seam when I needed to. Had a good changeup. I threw 76 pitches in four innings. But that's what they asked me to do, so I'm going to keep doing it."

NOTES: LHP Josh Outman was recalled from Double-A Tulsa before the game by the Rockies. ... Six of the 16 homers allowed by Vogelsong have come in his last four starts. ... White's homer was the first by a Rockies pitcher since May 7 when Drew Pomeranz went deep against San Diego's Edinson Volquez.

(AP) ? President Hamid Karzai welcomed Monday's handover of the main American-run prison to Afghan forces as a victory for Afghan sovereignty, though he and U.S. officials remain locked in a dispute over the fate of hundreds of Taliban and terror suspects behind bars.

The United States is withholding the transfer of scores of inmates, reportedly out of concern that Afghan authorities may simply let some detainees go and no longer hold dangerous prisoners without charge.

American irritation was apparent at the ceremony at the prison, about 25 miles (40 kilometers) north of Kabul. No higher ranking American officers attended, although the Afghan government sent its defense minister, army chief of staff and other officials.

Karzai also did not attend, though he released a statement calling the handover a "very big step regarding the sovereignty of Afghanistan."

"Now, the Bagram prison is converted to one of Afghanistan's regular prisons where the innocents will be freed and the rest of the prisoners will be sentenced according to the laws of Afghanistan," the statement said.

The more than 2,000 Afghan military policemen now at the prison said the inmates were pleased to be guarded by Afghans.

"We are Afghan and they are Afghan. They are Muslim. We are Muslim," said Ashna Gul, a military policeman from Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan. "We can see each other through the steel windows. Sometimes we are laughing and joking with the prisoners and they are happy with our guys."

Firoz Khan, another military policeman from Nangarhar, said some of the inmates ask him to get them more soap and shampoo.

"We sympathize with them because they are prisoners and they are away from their families," Khan said.

Hours after the handover ceremony, a suicide attack killed 15 people and wounded 25 others in the northern city of Kunduz. The bombing was a stark reminder that insurgents continue their fight against Afghan and U.S.-led coalition troops and that many detainees at the prison are suspected of organizing such attacks.

The U.S. began detention operations at Bagram Air Field in early 2002. For several years, prisoners were kept at a former Soviet aircraft machine plant converted into a lockup. In 2009, the U.S. opened a new detention facility next door. The number of detainees incarcerated at the prison, now called the Parwan Detention Facility, has swelled from about 1,100 in September 2010 to 3,110 in the spring of this year.

The prison has been the focus of controversy in the past but never had the notoriety of the prisons at the U.S. military detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, or Abu Ghraib in Iraq. Had al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden been captured instead of killed, CIA Director Leon Panetta said he would have been taken to Bagram first, then probably to Guantanamo Bay.

Earlier this year, the prison gained unwanted attention when hundreds of Qurans and other religious materials were taken from its library and sent to a burn pit at the military base. The event triggered scores of deadly anti-American protests across Afghanistan. More than 30 Afghans and six U.S. soldiers were killed during the violent demonstrations. Karzai said Qurans would never have been burned if Afghans had been in control of the prison then.

Karzai and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding about the future of the detention facility on March 9, following tense negotiations that frequently stalled.

Since then, the U.S. has transferred 3,082 detainees to Afghan control, according to Afghan Army Gen. Ghulam Farouk, who now heads the prison. He said Monday that the U.S. was in the process of transferring the remaining 30 inmates picked up before the memorandum was signed plus another 600 captured after the signing.

But a few weeks ago, the U.S. stopped all transfers.

"Some 99 percent of the detainees captured before 9 March have already been transferred to Afghan authority, but we have paused the transfer of the remaining detainees until our concerns are met," said Jamie Graybeal, a spokesman for the U.S.-led military coalition.

Graybeal would not describe the concerns, but a report released last week by the New York-based Open Society Foundations said the rift was over whether the Afghans will have a so-called "internment" system that allows some detainees to be held without charge or trial. The U.S. has been holding detainees in internment at Bagram for years.

Although the Afghan government agreed to embrace an internment system by signing the accord in March, some top Afghan officials and legal experts contend it violates the Afghan constitution, the report said. Moreover, Karzai himself is opposed to administrative detention, according to the report.

The U.S. is now worried that the Afghan government will discontinue internment and either release dangerous detainees or forward their cases to the loosely run Afghan judicial system, which is tainted by corruption and secrecy, the group said.

"There are concerns on the U.S. side about division in the Afghan government over internment and that it is not constitutional," said Rachel Reid, a senior policy adviser on Afghanistan for the Open Society Foundations. "The basic concern is that if they don't have internment, they will be released."

On the flip side of the legal issue, some Afghan legal experts are worried about Afghan officials abusing any authority to hold detainees without trial.

"Consider the fact that even our regular laws are ignored by powerful people," said Abdul Qawi Afzali of the Legal Aid Organization Afghanistan. "What will happen when you give them the actual, legal power to detain people like this law does?"

Panetta, the Pentagon chief, spoke with Karzai by phone Monday and "expressed a shared commitment to implement the terms of the memorandum of understanding on detention operations," said his press secretary, George Little. He said the phone call was cordial.

Monday was the deadline for the transfer of the prison.

In Brussels, NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen downplayed the dispute and said the handover reflected the ongoing process of Afghans taking the lead for running security and other institutions in their homeland. Afghan policemen and soldiers are to be in charge of security across the country by the end of 2014, when most international troops will have left or moved into support roles.

"We take it for granted that the Afghan authorities will take all necessary measures to prevent any security risks," the NATO chief said. "That's also in their interest."

Afghan officials also played down the issue.

Acting Defense Minister Enayatullah Nazari said after the ceremony that the delay in handing over the rest of the prisoners was due to "technical issues."

Farouk, the new prison director, said: "We are telling the Afghan president and the Afghan people that today is a proud day. We will protect the rights of prisoners according to international law and Afghan law."

There is another major issue that remains unresolved at the prison.

The memorandum of understanding did not address the estimated 50 non-Afghan prisoners that the U.S. is holding at the prison. They include individuals from Pakistan, Tunisia, Yemen and detainees transferred to Bagram from other wars, such as Iraq. The U.S. will retain custody of these non-Afghan prisoners until their fate is addressed in another agreement between the Afghan and U.S. governments.

At the ceremony, 16 prisoners, all wearing matching gray sweaters, were released.

Haji Lalai from Kandahar, the spiritual birthplace of the Taliban, said he was detained at the prison two years ? 20 months by the U.S. military and four months under Afghan guard.

"It was OK, but sometimes the Americans had a bad attitude against us," he said, adding that he didn't like the prison food and often shivered in his cell. "I am happy to be released. I was not an insurgent. I was innocent. I was arrested in my house."

Mirwais, a man from Zabul province in the south who uses only one name, told a similar story.

"The U.S. raided my home. I'm a shopkeeper. I was at home with my family and they raided my home at night and took me to Bagram," Mirwais said, adding that he was imprisoned for 10 months. "The Americans' attitude toward us was not good."

Iraq's fugitive VP convicted as attacks kill 82

BAGHDAD (AP) ? Iraq's fugitive Sunni vice president was sentenced Sunday to death by hanging on charges he masterminded death squads against rivals in a terror trial that has fueled sectarian tensions in the country. Underscoring the instability, insurgents unleashed an onslaught of bombings and shootings across Iraq, killing at least 82 people in one of the deadliest days this year.

It appeared unlikely that the attacks in 13 cities were all timed to coincide with the afternoon verdict that capped a monthslong case against Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi, a longtime foe of Shiite Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. Still, taken together, the violence and verdict could energize Sunni insurgents bent on returning Iraq to the brink of civil war by targeting Shiites and undermining the government.

Al-Hashemi fled to Turkey in the months after the Shiite-led government accused him of playing a role in 150 bombings, assassinations and other attacks from 2005 to 2011 ? years in which the country was mired in retaliatory sectarian violence that followed the 2003 U.S.-led invasion that ousted Saddam Hussein's Sunni regime. Most of the attacks were allegedly carried out by al-Hashemi's bodyguards and other employees, and largely targeted government officials, security forces and Shiite pilgrims.

The vice president declined to immediately comment on the verdict after meeting with the Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in Ankara. He said he would "tackle this issue in a statement" in coming hours.

The politically charged case ? which was announced the day after U.S. troops withdrew from the country last December ? sparked a government crisis and fueled Sunni Muslim and Kurdish resentment against al-Maliki, whom critics say is monopolizing power.

Violence has ebbed significantly, but insurgents continue to stage high-profile bombings and shooting rampages. Al-Qaida's Iraq branch has promised a comeback in predominantly Sunni areas from which it was routed by the U.S. and its local allies after sectarian fighting peaked in 2007.

"These attacks show al-Qaida's ability to hit any place in Iraq and at any time," said Ali Salem, 40, an elementary school teacher in Baghdad. "The lack of security could take us back to zero."

The worst violence on Sunday struck the capital, where bombs pounded a half-dozen neighborhoods ? both Sunni and Shiite ? throughout the day.

The deadliest attacks in Baghdad hit Shiite areas Sunday evening, hours after the al-Hashemi verdict was announced. In all, 32 people were killed in the capital and 90 wounded, according to police and hospital officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information to reporters.

The countrywide attacks began before dawn, with gunmen killing soldiers at an army post in the central Iraqi city of Dujail. A few hours later, a car exploded in a lot where police recruits waiting in line to apply for jobs outside Kirkuk in the country's north. Both Dujail and Kirkuk are former insurgent strongholds.

During the day, at least 82 people were killed and more than 330 wounded in at least 21 separate bombings and shooting attacks, according to reports from police and hospital officials. No group immediately claimed responsibility, but Iraq's Interior Ministry blamed al-Qaida in Iraq.

"The attacks today on the markets and mosques are aimed at provoking sectarian and political tensions," the ministry said in a statement. "Our war against terrorism is continuing, and we are ready."

The courtroom at Baghdad's criminal court was silent Sunday as the presiding judge read out the verdict. It convicted al-Hashemi and his son-in-law, Ahmed Qahtan, of organizing the murders of a Shiite security official and a lawyer who had refused to help the vice president's allies in terror cases. The two defendants were acquitted in a third case of the killing of a security officer due to a lack of evidence.

The court sentenced both men in absentia to death by hanging. They have 30 days to appeal the verdict and could win a retrial if they return to Iraq to face the charges. Al-Hashemi ? who has been in office since 2006 ? is on Interpol's most-wanted list, but Turkey has shown no interest in sending the vice president back to Baghdad.

The defense team began its closing statement with a searing indictment of Iraq's justice system, accusing it of showing no independence and siding with the Shiite-led government.

"From the beginning and through all procedures it has become obvious that the Iraqi judicial system has been under political pressure," attorney Muayad Obeid al-Ezzi, the head of the defense team, told the court.

The presiding judge immediately interjected, warning that that the court would open legal proceedings against the defense team if it continued to heap accusations on the court or the legal system.

Reaction to the verdict was largely along sectarian lines on the streets of Baghdad.

Sunni lawyer Abdullah al-Azami called the trial "another farce to be added to the Iraqi judicial system."

Shiite pharmacist Khalid Saied, meanwhile, said he supported the verdict and hoped the government would broadcast all the evidence against al-Hashemi "so that the entire world knows him."

Sunday's violence came amid fears that the insurgency has gained new strength after suffering heavy setbacks in U.S. and Iraqi offensives. Four of the attacks targeted Kirkuk, where city police commander Brig. Gen. Sarhad Qadir blamed the violence on al-Qaida.

The carnage stretched into the country's south, where bombs stuck to two parked cars exploded in the Shiite-dominated city of Nasiriyah, 320 kilometers (200 miles) southeast of Baghdad. The blasts were near the French consulate and a local hotel in the city, although the consulate did not appear to be a target of the attack.

Local deputy health director Dr. Adnan al-Musharifawi said two people were killed and three were wounded at the hotel, and one Iraqi policeman was wounded at the consulate. Al-Musharifawi said no French diplomats were among the casualties. In Paris, France's Foreign Ministry said it "condemns with the greatest severity" the wave of attacks.

A string of smaller attacks Sunday also struck nine other cities. It was one of the worst outbreaks of violence in Iraq in 2012, although the single deadliest day was July 23, when least 115 people were killed ? the most in more than two years.

Williams to face Azarenka in US Open women's final

NEW YORK (AP) ? Standing only about a foot from the net, Serena Williams wound up that ferocious backhand and pounded it away for another easy winner.

She bent down, pumped her fist and shouted "Come On" at the top of her lungs.

Quite a reaction for a shot that put her one point away from a 4-1 lead in the second set of her U.S. Open semifinal.

Imagine how she might respond if she finally gets pushed, even a little bit, in the final against Victoria Azarenka.

After Williams' predictably punishing 6-1, 6-2 dismantling of Sara Errani in the semifinals on Friday, only Azarenka can stop the fourth-seeded American from taking home her fourth title from Flushing Meadows and her 15th Grand Slam title overall.

Azarenka arrived at the same destination as Williams but has taken a remarkably different journey.

The No. 1 seed defeated No. 3 Maria Sharapova 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 in Friday's first semifinal and, like Williams, is seeking her second Grand Slam title of the season. But while Azarenka has been pushed in this tournament, winning back-to-back, tense three-setters in her last two matches, Williams hasn't had to work all that hard.

She has lost only 19 games in six matches.

Still, she is heading into the final with the attitude of an underdog.

"I feel like I'm going up against ? I personally think ? the most consistent and the best player this year," Williams said. "I feel like I don't have anything to lose and it will be a good challenge for me."

The men's semifinals are also scheduled for Saturday.

Third-seeded Andy Murray opens the day against sixth-seeded Tomas Berdych in a matchup of players seeking their first major titles, both of whom have victories over Roger Federer this summer ? Murray at the Olympics and Berdych here in the quarterfinals.

The later semifinal pits defending champion Novak Djokovic against fourth-seeded David Ferrer, who is trying to make his first Grand Slam final.

The women's final is scheduled for Saturday night, when the forecast calls for a 70 percent chance of rain.

On Friday, it was muggy with temperatures in the low 80s, though Williams didn't have to worry much about conditions or anything else.

Her win over the 10th-seeded Errani of Italy turned out exactly the way it looked beforehand on paper.

Errani spun in serves at an average of 83 mph, while Williams was consistently in the 110s.

Errani hustled from side to side, retrieving balls and trying to get into long points, while Williams stayed patient ? but only as patient as she had to be ? setting herself up for 38 winners against only 21 unforced errors.

Williams finished with nine aces and heads into the final with 50 for the tournament. Errani's total: Zero.

"My objective was to prolong the match as much as possible," said Errani, who did, in fact, stay out there for 1 hour, 4 minutes.

In some ways, the mismatch makes Errani's trip to the U.S. Open look that much more impressive. She was the finalist at the French Open on the slow red clay at Roland Garros, but her game held up on the quicker hard courts, too, and Williams, not fully pleased with her own play to this point, was complimentary.

"I definitely played better today," Williams said. "I played better than my other matches. And playing someone like her, you have to go better."

Azarenka, meanwhile, found herself in a completely different kind of tussle against this year's French Open champion.

She fell behind after a nervous first set, then got a pair of breaks in the second to even the match.

These players came in with a combined 23-0 record in three-set matches this year ? 12 for Sharapova and 11 for Azarenka ? and something had to give.

Sharapova blinked first, falling behind 0-30 in her final service game, scratching back to save one match point, but flying a forehand long on the second.

Moments later, Azarenka was dancing near center court, knowing she's one win away from adding this to her Australian Open title from earlier this year. In her on-court interview, she said she wished she could stay out there and keep playing.

A few hours later, she found out her opponent would, in fact, be Williams, who is 9-1 lifetime against the Belarusian.

"Well, first of all, if you look at our record, it says it all," Azarenka said. "I haven't won in any last meetings, so I definitely need to find something to surprise her tomorrow, because she's in great form, feeling really confident right now."

Williams will be in her 19th Grand Slam final, a string that began here at Flushing Meadows in 1999, when she defeated Martina Hingis for her first title.

Last year, Williams was stunned in the final by Sam Stosur, a match best remembered for Williams directing a series of insults at the chair umpire, including, "You're just unattractive inside."

Two years before that, Williams launched into her infamous foot-fault tirade and was docked a point on match point, ending a semifinal loss to Kim Clijsters.

When a reporter mentioned to Williams that nothing of that sort has happened this year, she replied: "Hey, it's not done yet."

Maybe a more appropriate question might be, Can anyone beat Williams besides herself?

"They have to play, and Azarenka is also a strong player," Errani said. "I think Serena is another level."

SHEMAKESCHANGE Focuses On Women, Money, and Philanthropy ...

INDIANAPOLISSHEMAKESCHANGE, a new online conference from the Womens Philanthropy Institute at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, is among the first programs to connect womens attitudes about money to how they manage their charitable giving. Through live presentations, panel discussions and sharing research, financial, legal and womens philanthropy experts and philanthropists will explore how women view money, uproot perceived attitudes about money and philanthropy, and leverage these insights to change the world. Much is written about women and money, and research on womens philanthropy is growing. Few opportunities exist, however, to discuss the connections among women, money and philanthropy. The Womens Philanthropy Institute furthers the understanding of womens philanthropy through research, education, and knowledge dissemination. The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University is a leading academic center dedicated to increasing the understanding of philanthropy and improving its practice worldwide through research, teaching, training and public affairs programs in philanthropy, fundraising, and management of nonprofit organizations.

SMBs must be proactive with website security ? CopperEgg

The internet is a powerful enabler for small businesses, as it allows organizations to leverage next-generation tools to enhance efficiency and collaboration. Unfortunately, many small companies are ill prepared in terms of ensuring strong website security tools are present to safeguard customer and enterprise confidential information.

The cybercriminal landscape is evolving and becoming more malicious, as attackers vary in their specialities. Some individuals attack a business' website in an attempt to steal mission-critical documents they can sell, while others infect a company's website so they can take control over a visitor's personal computer, according to a report by USA Today.

Small and medium-sized businesses are even more susceptible to attacks than larger firms, as SMBs may not necessarily have the resources to bounce back after falling victim to a cybercriminal, Gartner research director Lawrence Pingree told USA Today. For this reason, many SMBs are investing in advanced online security tools in an effort to build stronger defenses.

"Security spending tends to be resilient in bad economic times, as bad economics typically lead to higher rates of fraud and criminal activities," Pingree said, according to USA Today. "Most companies continue to enhance security measures against adaptive and more heavily targeted attacks."

Cyberthreats abundance grows

Speaking with Joel Smith, CTO at security service provider AppRiver, USA Today noted that roughly 82 percent of all email traffic in the first half of 2012 was infected with malware.

"Spam volume is actually slightly less than it has been over the past decade but it's still very high," Smith said, according to USA Today. "And the stuff that's out there is much more malicious."

In addition to email, cybercriminals are taking aim at company websites in an effort to infect a wider range of the web unnoticed. Many malicious parties on the web are putting malware anywhere they can, making it extremely important for SMBs to use website monitoring tools to observe the virtual landscape and ensure no unauthorized activity is taking place that could negatively impact an organization's reputation and customers, USA Today reported.

Having an extra layer of defense through monitoring may bring some relief to decision-makers.

"Knowing that you've got that piece out front gives you a bit of breathing space," said Paul Judge, chief research officer at security provider Barracuda Networks, according to the news source. "It gives you time to focus on making sure your services are available to the public during peak hours."

As the mobile landscape continues to evolve, however, new threats are emerging. By using smartphones, tablets and other devices, individuals have the ability to visit an organization's website from virtually anywhere. While this can boost efficiency for a company, it also introduces new vulnerabilities that could be exposed by advanced cybercriminals, USA Today noted.

This concern was echoed in another Gartner report, saying that bring your own device is one of the biggest security concerns faced by the private sector in the last several years.

By leveraging advanced security tools, SMB IT departments can ensure website performance levels are not severely impacted by the changing threat landscape. Website monitoring solutions, in particular, help companies gain more visibility into the virtual environment, allowing decision-makers to observe server health and other vital aspects of today's businesses without disrupting day-to-day operations.

As the web landscape becomes more malign, it will be important for small companies to be proactive in their efforts to safeguard sensitive information, as failing to do so could permanently damage a firm's reputation.
